Housing Now Plan for Housing on Public Land by Toronto City Council
The plan calls for new building on 11 City-owned properties.
Market non-rental 2928
Market rental 3630
Affordable (RGI) 3629
Total 10,187
Here is a map (better online) to give some perspective. //housingnowto.com/ .
The plan calls for a mix of private and non-profit building. However, the ratio is not defined and the criteria are still being developed.
How much land do you think should be deeply affordable? ACORN is calling for 50%. The experience in New York is that they can bargain with developers to create affordable housing in the long term because the land is so valuable. Do you think Toronto land (
nd condo potential) is enough that developers will commit to real affordable housing?
Stay tuned. This plan is new so you can help shape it:
